You were falsely accused so long ago, Lord. And because of it, You were led to Your Death. You remained Silent at Your trial, uttering nothing in Your own defense. The false accusations were meaningless to You compared to the loss of Your children’s love and companionship! That’s why You said nothing. You wanted to Save us, so we would return to You. You desired that infinitely more than You wanted to clear Your own Name.
Like You, I have been falsely accused by my firstborn child, and I don’t care. I just want that adult child to return to You and to me and to be released from whatever imprisons her!
I think I would give my life for my children. I certainly couldn’t do anything else if someone had a gun pointed to theirs heads. My death would be far easier to face than watching my beloved children die. That is an echo of Your Salvation and Love in me because I am made in Your Image.
We are in Your Story, Lord, and we are Your Story. We are also Keepers of Your Story. Our lives are to be Metaphors for Your Saving Grace.
“…put on the new self, which is being renewed in Knowledge after the Image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:10
We are not just highly evolved animals. No animal comes close to all that we humans are capable of. Yes, we have characteristics in common with the animal kingdom, but we are no more mere animals than the stars in the night sky are LEDs.
We have God-Likeness…
Because we are made in Your Image, Lord, we can reflect on the past and envision the future. We can create or destroy. We think abstract thoughts and understand both love and hate. We can be altruistic to the point of great sacrifice, or we can trample and oppress others for our own gain. We connect with each other through complex language, and at the same time, on a much deeper visceral level. Our love for another is often independent of what we get back from that person – Agape -The Image Of God! And from that Agape comes complete forgiveness – Again, an echo of Your Salvation working in us.
Evolution is too simple a concept to explain the times when extreme self-sacrifice and forgiveness are manifest in us. The best in us speaks to Who You Are, Lord. And our very existence is evidence of Your Existence.
We are made in Your Image.
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on Love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the Peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in One Body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:12-15
